Abstract

The article presents, on the basis of the own experience, the fields of speech and language therapy among people with profound intellectual disability. Respiratory abilities, communication skills and therapeutic feeding are found the scopes of activity of the greatest importance. The presentation
is broadened by the specification of the methods applied and exemplary exercises. The survey is also used to emphasise the most frequent difficulties in therapists’ work. The purpose of the article is to introduce the subject area of people with profound intellectual disability as well as to decide upon
possible course of action that a speech therapist, who finds it difficult to work with mute people and the ones with inhibitive communication abilities, can take.
