Narration and Re-Narration in School-age Children with ADHD

A review of the literature on the subject indicates the need for research that can illustrate the development degree of individual elements composing linguistic, communicative and cultural competences, as well as possible differences in this respect between hyperactive students and their neurotypical peers. This article discusses the use of narrative by children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in comparison with the narrative behavior of children from the control group (without developmental disorders). The paper reports on the research conducted on a group of students in grades 1-4 of primary school. The set of narrative trials was additionally extended with a task assessing re-narration creation based on the auditory memory of the text. The obtained results, compiled and analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively, become the basis for the author to further search for language disorders occurring in ADHD.
