Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Font

  • Main text:

    • Times New Roman, size 12 pt

    • Line spacing: 1.5

  • Footnotes:

    • Times New Roman, size 10 pt

  • Tables, table titles, captions under figures:

    • Times New Roman, size 12 pt

    • Line spacing: 1

Dashes ("-" and "–")

  • Hyphen ("-"):

    • Shortest dash, used in compound words (e.g., czarno-biały, Rydz-Śmigły).

    • Directly attached to words without spaces.

  • Dash ("–"):

    • Longer dash, used as a separator.

    • Spaced out from adjacent text.

    • Note: Do not confuse a dash with a hyphen.

Paragraphs

  • Start with a 1 cm indent.

Quotation Marks

  • Use quotation marks to enclose titles of journals or quotes, unless differentiated by other formatting (e.g., font size).

Emphasis

  • Italic: Highlight discussed words, phrases, or sentences; book titles; chapter titles; articles; and foreign terms within Polish text.

  • Underline: Use letter spacing to indicate underlined text.

  • Definition terms: Present in single quotes (e.g., ‛example’).
  • Definition terms: Present in single quotes (e.g., ‛example’).

Figures, Photos, Charts, Logos

  • Include black-and-white or color graphics in vector or bitmap format.

  • Submit in JPG or TIFF format with a resolution of 300 dpi.

  • Insert placeholders in the text for images (e.g., {image1.jpg}), which should match the file names.

Note: Internet-sourced materials usually lack sufficient resolution for printing.

Captions Under Illustrations

  • Use Times New Roman, size 9 pt.

Footnotes

  • Serve as author’s comments.

  • Use Times New Roman, size 10 pt.

Tables

  • Prepare in MS Word or Excel.

  • Text: Times New Roman, size 9 pt.

  • Table borders: 0.5 pt thick.

Bibliographical References

  • In-text and footnotes: Use Harvard referencing (author, year; for quotes, include page number).

  • Footnotes: Supplementary explanations.

Bibliography

  • Include at the end of the article in alphabetical order.

  • Format references as follows:

    • Grabias, S., 1981, O ekspresywności języka. Ekspresja a słowotwórstwo, Lublin.

    • Grabias, S., 1982, Paronimia jako proces leksykalny, "Socjolingwistyka", 4, 75-88.

Final Layout Notes

The final layout and page count will differ from the submitted manuscript.

  • Avoid manually:

    • Creating new pages by pressing Enter repeatedly.

    • Listing items or page numbers in the Table of Contents.

    • Inserting manual hyphens to split words.

    • Removing "widowed" single letters or conjunctions at the end of lines by pressing Enter mid-sentence.

    • Adding spaces before punctuation marks.

    • Placing periods after titles, subtitles, captions, running headers, table headings, or Roman numeral ordinals.
